Description
General Instructions:
Homesafe Deck Pro is a penetrating timber preservative and water repellent and not a coating that remains on the surface of the timber. If the timber has been previously painted or varnished it will be necessary to remove the old coating before applying. Homesafe Deck Pro products work by the fact that the carrier in the product (solvent) helps deposit the waxes and resins into the cell structure of the timber before volatilizing off. This forms a barrier, which controls the movement of moisture in and out of the timber. Deck Pro is a pre-stained product.
Mix well before use. Colour will be different depending on type of wood and will fade in time. Depending on its exposure to the elements, timber will need reapplication coats at intervals initially of 6 to 12 months and then at longer periods up to 3 – 5 years. Exterior structures exposed fully to the sun and weathering may need to be done more frequently. Treated timber can be painted over with oil based paints, primers and stains 3 days after treatment in fine warm weather and after a week in cooler weather (<20°C). Note that Homesafe Deck Pro may slow the drying rate of primers.
It is recommended to allow at least a further 24 hours drying time for the primer in addition to the manufacturers normal instructions. If in doubt consult the manufacturer. If water based Acrylics are to be used on Homesafe Deck Pro treated timber, it is recommended to first coat the timber with an oil based primer. The extent of the protection will depend on the function of the timber species, moisture content of the timber at time of treatment and the hazards to which the timber will be exposed.
